The environmental crisis is after us, so we can all agree that we should make more conscious choices in our lives – and this includes transportation and commuting too. Diesel-fueled, old cars and buses are out, e-mobility is in! Right now there are plenty of possibilities that you can choose from: from old-school ways to futuristic e-cars.
Let’s dive into the future and see how our travel habits will change in this new era!
The old-school ways
Bikes
Big cities of Europe are all about being healthy and living in a healthy environment without pollution caused by cars. More and more people started using bikes in their daily lives which is not only environmental-friendly but also a very health-conscious choice! Imagine going home from a tiring workday and won’t have to hit up the gym, because you’ve already done with your daily workout by commuting.
Public transportation
“A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It’s where the rich use public transportation.” – said Gustavo Petro (or Paul McCartney? No one knows this four sure!) and he was dead right on that! In today’s world, the city management in most towns spends more and more money on developing their public transport system. It is a much more eco-friendly way and also gives us a sense of community in today’s alienated world.
Walking streets in the inner city
Bye-bye, stupid cars that only make city life miserable! If anyone ever tried getting to the Buda side from the outer districts of Pest with a car, knows that the traffic makes the trip a living hell. Not good for the drivers, not good for the locals – and also not good for the environment. That’s why big cities ban cars from certain streets downtown altogether. If you have business over there – go on foot!
This banning doesn’t apply to ambulances and other life-saving vehicles.
New waves
Electric cars
E-mobility is the catchword of the decade and the king of e-mobility is electric cars. Usually, they are a bit expensive, but with one of those, you don’t have to pay for parking in the city. They are also eco-friendly and more and more widespread in Budapest. You can also rent them with car-sharing apps.
All the major car manufacturers made a decision to switch to the production of electric cars in the next decades.
E-scooters
Talk about sustainability, e-mobility, and zero-emission! E-scooters all have those traits. It’s also a unique and fun way to ride around the city, even in zones that you cannot enter by car. Granted you won’t get into the traffic and will reach your destination in a short amount of time. If you are in Budapest, make sure you rent an e-scooter with Luna Tours as they also offer a small training for you on how to ride the scooters! If you are interested, you can also book a guided tour with them.
